Cooking

Volunteers meet at 4:00pm in the kitchen of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, which is on Richmond Road right across the street from Monroe Hall. The entrance we use is the main back door that faces the church parking lot. The kitchen is located down the first hallway on your right.

When cooking, please wear appropriate clothing and minimal accessories: closed toed shoes, long pants, and a hat (or you will be given a hairnet). Please also secure any loose sleeves and tie back long hair, and leave the bling at home…flat rings are okay, but nothing too fancy that might get in the way or damaged!

Cooking shifts involve a lot of teamwork and creativity, as volunteers use donated food to prepare tasty, balanced meals for nearly 200 individuals each week. These meals are prepared on Mondays and Thursdays, and delivered to different low-income neighborhoods in Williamsburg on Tuesdays and Fridays, respectively. No gourmet cooking experience is necessary– just a willingness to learn, have fun, and respect the safety rules of the kitchen!
