An important part of my professional identity is my service to K-12 schools and other educational organizations.  My work includes consulting, writing/editing, and, most frequently, providing professional development.  The areas in which I most often work are briefly described below.  For a complete list of workshop presentations, addresses, and projects in service to K-12 schools and other educational organizations, please refer to my vita.

Teacher-made Assessments.  This hands-on, job-embedded series of workshops is designed to develop essential knowledge and practical skills for assessing student learning by K-12 teachers in their classrooms.  A hallmark of this professional development is the provision of timely, accurate, specific feedback to each participant with the intent of strengthening the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in support of student learning.

Teacher Mentoring.  In either a one- or two-day format, this training is designed to equip experienced teachers with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to effectively mentor novice teachers in their schools.  The training is aligned with standards for mentoring in Virginia and is anchored in reasearch-based mentoring programs.

Teacher Supervision and Evaluation.  Drawing from experience as a school leader and from an active research agenda, I provide professional development to schools and districts in designing comprehensive evaluation systems and in training administrators in supervision strategies that focus on improving instruction in the classroom.

Strategic Planning.  Whether for a department, program, school, district, or other educational agency, articulating and building consensus for a shared mission and vision is an essential component of a leader's responsibility.  While I do not provide comprehensive data collection services that a private company would, I do serve as a facilitator for  organizations engaging in strategic planning.  This includes crafting a unique mission statement, articulating a relevant and realistic vision, engaging in SWOT analysis, establishing priorites, outlining action plans, and defining meaningful criteria of success.
