Debra Shulman (PhD, Yale) is Assistant Professor of Government at the College of William and Mary. She came to W&M in 2007, and is a member of the faculties of interdisciplinary programs in International Relations and Middle Eastern Studies.

A specialist in Middle East politics, Professor Shulman is working on a book manuscript tackling the question: What factors influence foreign policy-making in autocratic regimes? Empirically, the book analyzes the foreign policies of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria during the 1990-91 and 2003+ Gulf wars.

Professor Shulman's course offerings include Govt 339 Middle East Political Systems, Govt 203 Intro to Comparative Politics, and Govt 491 Arab Foreign Policies in the Gulf Wars.

Professor Shulman received a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in Government from Harvard University, an MPhil in International Relations from Oxford University, and an MA, MPhil, and PhD in Political Science from Yale University. Shulman is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and recipient of the Marshall Scholarship, the Truman Scholarship, and the Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation.
