Recent Media Appearances and Quotes
Al-Ra'i, the leading Jordanian daily newspaper, published an opinion piece by journalist Sami Al-Zbedi, entitled "Jordan in Their Eyes." In March 2009, Mr. Al-Zbedi accompanied Jordanian political scientist Hassan Al-Barari on a visit to W&M, where Prof. Shushan had invited Dr. Al-Barari to lecture on the prognosis for Arab-Israeli peace. Mr. Al-Zbedi's piece covers the substance of Dr. Al-Barari's lecture, with a particular interest in the reactions of W&M students. The op-ed is in Arabic.

- Sanlian Life Week, Beijing's most widely circulated news magazine, risked running afoul of the Chinese government's censorship of news on the Egyptian uprising by publishing an article analyzing the developments entitled "Egypt's Future is Unknown" in its 16 Feb. 2011 edition. The piece draws extensively on insights from Prof. Shushan and other regional experts. Read the Chinese-language article or an English translation.
- France24, France's international news TV channel, invited Prof. Shushan to appear live on the 1 Feb. 2011 edition of The Debate, hosted by Francois Picard. Discussion centered on the unfolding revolutionary events in Egypt and their possible impact on the Middle East and on US-Egyptian relations. The other guests included: Gil Mihaely of Israel's Yediot Ahronot, Egyptian banker Ash Banayotti, and France24's Melissa Bell and Nathan King.
- Gulan, a weekly news magazine in Iraqi Kurdistan, published an interview with Prof. Shushan in October 2009. The focus of the interview is on the future of Iraq, particularly in light of the upcoming national elections scheduled for 2010. Topics discussed include tensions between the Kurdish regional government and the central government in Baghdad, integration of members of the Sunni "awakening," and potential for external interference by Iraq's neighbors.
