My main areas of interest are the philosophy of the great eighteenth-century empiricist, David Hume; the passions and motivation; and the field of moral psychology. I joined the Philosophy Department at The College of William & Mary in 2009 after teaching for many years in the Department of Philosophy at Santa Clara University. I received my Ph.D. from The Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University.
The picture to the right shows the famous Hume statue in Edinburgh, done by artist Sandy Stoddart. Rubbing Hume's right big toe will bring you knowledge and good luck. Really! See this. But why is Hume wearing a toga?! Ask the sculptor himself.
