W&M Law Student Hurricane Network
Hello and greetings from the William & Mary Law Chapter of the Student Hurricane Network. Thank you for your interest in helping rebuild the Gulf Coast! The Student Hurricane Network (SHN) is a group of William & Mary law students dedicated to advancing the cause of social justice in communities affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. SHN aids in this effort by taking a committed group of law student volunteers to the Gulf Coast each Spring Break, providing legal services, manual labor and community organizing. SHN's inaugural spring break trip was two years ago in 2008. 20 W&M law students traveled to New Orleans for a week. Through SHN, we were able to provide volunteer legal assitance to the New Orleans City Attorney's Office, community organizing assistance to the American Red Cross and the New Orleans Workers' Center for Racial Justice, and manual labor to Desire Street Ministries. Last year, 21 students travelled to New Orleans and volunteered with the City Attorney's Office, Desire Street Ministries and other community organizations. In solidarity, Student Hurricane Network of William and Mary Law School Executive Board
