Summer Travel Scholarship

In 2012, the ILS was able to provide three outstanding applicants, who had unpaid international internship, each $200.00 this summer.

The winners are:

Kathleen Imbriglia - worked for the Department of Justice, Office of Immigration Litigation in Washington, DC.

Alison Rabe - worked for United Nations Office of
Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Courtney Thomas - worked for People Against Suffering, Oppression, and Poverty (PASSOP) in Cape Town, South Africa.

In 2010, the ILS was able to give $300 to three deserving students interning abroad over the summer.

The winners as follows:

Mariel Murray - worked International Bridges to Justice in Geneva.

Rachel Roberts- worked for International Bridges to Justice in Kenya.

Catherine WIlmarth -worked for the Center for Human Rights and the Environment (CEDHA) in Cordoba, Argentina.

 

 

In 2009, the ILS was able to give $250 to two deserving students interning abroad over the summer. 

The two winners of the 2009 ILS Travel Scholarship were:

Kate Paine - worked for the Center for Human Rights and the
Environment (CEDHA) in Cordoba, Argentina.

Masha Kalinina - worked for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ROLI)in Moscow, Russia.

Masha's Job - American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, Russia: ABA ROLI has several programs active in Russia.  They sponsor continuing Legal Education, both for lawyers and judges, hold seminars on ethics in the legal profession, put out publications on anti-human trafficking measures and application procedures to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), and also have several test programs throughout Russia on fighting corruption.

During the summer of 2009, Masha interned in the ABA’s Moscow office where her major assignment was to research and write a memorandum on legislative and administrative measures taken by Russia to satisfy a recent ECHR decision (Burdov v. Russia No. 2) calling for timely execution of domestic court judgments against the state.  She also helped update the directory of Russian NGOs working to aid victims of human trafficking, attended a criminal trial of a "former" St. Petersburg mob boss, visited the Moscow Regional Chamber of Advocates to hear a lecture on the Russian Constitution and the US Embassy for a lecture on corporate raiding. Finally, Masha had the opportunity to research and write another memorandum on a Vermont bankruptcy case on appeal from the district court, as a special non-Russia related assignment from the Director.
