Student Legal Services
Student Legal Services (SLS) is a student-run and student-staffed organization that provides free legal information to all William & Mary students, faculty, and staff. Students from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law volunteer to work one hour shifts during the office's operating hours to assist clients. If you have a legal question, you may call the office for an appointment or simply walk in. A volunteer will take your contact information and the information concerning your issue and help you to the best of his or her ability. The SLS office is located in Room 166 of the Campus Center. The office is open from Monday through Friday. The office telephone number is 221-3304 and the email address is wm.student.legal.services@gmail.com . Although we do our best to keep the office open 9am-4pm, we sometimes have to work around the schedule of our volunteers (see Contact Information for more detailed hours) . Please email us to schedule an appointment. Please note, SLS volunteers are Law Students, not Lawyers, and are forbidden from giving you legal advice. Volunteers may do research to discover the law(s) that may be applicable to your situation, but will not apply those laws. It is up to you to pursue the problem on your own. However, the information a volunteer provides should be helpful to any lawyer you may retain in the future. Having this information may save valuable time. Additionally, an SLS volunteer can direct you toward information on how to seek a qualified attorney and other sources of free legal representation. We will do our best to keep anything you tell us confidential, but we may have to reveal information in the case of an emergency. |
