Housing Board
Housing The best approach to finding housing is to ask current students or your advisor to send you announcements about opportunities that are passed around within the VIMS community, or you can email grads@vims.edu. Sue Presson, our wonderful registrar, also keeps a list of available housing, so you can contact her at snpres@vims.edu . The VIMS Housing Bulletin Board provides some listings of available housing in the area, but is by no means exhaustive. The Gloucester Gazette provides listings for apartment and housing rentals. The paper comes out once a week, and from experience, you can usually find the new postings on Wednesday afternoons between 1 and 3 pm. People call about these rentals fast so keep checking back. You can also check out the William and Mary Housing board for housing information closer towards Williamsburg. Finally, Craigslist.org in the Hampton Roads area has been an alternate source of housing information If you are comfortable with a 20-minute or more daily commute, housing opportunities in Williamsburg and Newport News are much more plentiful. Just remember that you will have to pay the Coleman Bridge toll (85 cents with a Smart Tag) each time you come to campus.
