William and Mary Medical Relief is a student run organization centered on providing medical aid, dental care, and health education to three impoverished neighborhoods in Managua, Nicaragua.
The group spends time during January of winter break traveling to the area and setting up free clinics to help address some of the medical needs of the community.
Along with the medical care, the students also conduct health education and surveys to aid in the prevention of many common illnesses and get a feel for the public health issues in the communities.
All this is done in conjunction with International Service Learning, an NGO based in Costa Rica. International Service Learning provides an unique hands-on teaching experience complete with a few seminars in basic health care and pharmacy skills.
