What is Nu Kappa Epsilon?
Our Purpose:
Nu Kappa Epsilon was established to promote the growth and development of musical activities and appreciation on campus and in the community where chapters have been formed and to develop in the members the best qualities of character through music.
NKE is...
Musical- first and foremost our organization exists for music. Our sisters are instrumentalists, singers, CD collectors, aspiring DJs…anyone who has a passionate love for music and who believes in the power of music. A love for music is our only pre-requisite for membership.
Not Greek- we are not affiliated with the Greek system and therefore are not nearly as expensive. If you are in a social sorority or plan to be, keep in mind that we have sisters who do both.
Philanthropic- NKE participates in various campus-wide philanthropies throughout the year. Some of our regular philanthropies include going to nursing homes to perform for the elderly, assisting with music classes at Matthew Whaley Elementary School, and visiting nearby Chippokes State Park for non-musical volunteer work. In addition, a portion of our yearly fundraising goes to the music department for music lesson scholarships.
Social- there’s always something to do with your NKE sisters…formals, movie nights, bowling, activities with Phi Mu Alpha (the music fraternity), concerts, recitals, and more!
Involved- NKE invests money each year in Sinfonicron, the W&M student-run light opera company, and many sisters participate. In addition to band, orchestra, chorus, and choir, sisters are sure to be found in pit orchestras, musical theater, ensembles…if it’s musical, chances are there’s an NKE involved!
Not too big, not too small—We currently have 23 sisters before rush, so we’re small enough that you can get to know everyone and get involved, but big enough to provide lots of opportunities!
Unique- NKE was founded at the College of William and Mary in 1994 and we recently established a Beta chapter at CNU. We hope to expand to other schools in the future.
