The Program

Who can join?

Enrollment in the Wind Symphony is open to all undergraduate and graduate students of the College of William & Mary, as well as any interested community member able to attend our rehearsals.  This diverse tradition of welcoming talented musicians from outside our own walls as well as in greatly contributes to the Wind Symphony's success!

How do I join?

Participation in the Wind Symphony requires a brief audition at the start of either the Fall or Spring semesters.  Come prepared for:

  1. a prepared piece: one piece with contrasting styles, or excerpts from two pieces that contrast in style
  2. sight reading: provided at the audition

At the end of the audition period, you will be notified of your results.

When are rehearsals?

The Wind Symphony meets from 4:30 - 6:20 Mondays and Wednesdays and 4:00 - 5:00 on Fridays.  Concerts are traditionally held on one weekend in September, October, December, March, and April.

What do I get?

The Wind Symphony is a curricular class, designated MUSC E03 in the Banner system.  It is worth one academic credit and can also fulfill the College's GER 6 requirement.

Intrinsically speaking, the Wind Symphony also provides a way to stay involved and grow your musical talent throughout your William & Mary experience.  The Wind Symphony is a highly social group, too: we have our own intramural sports teams, regularly eat dinners together, hold Music Department parties, and more.

The William & Mary Wind Symphony is the premiere wind experience at the College of William & Mary.  If you're looking for a great opportunity to play music, have fun, and work with great people, this is it.
