HoMER stands for History of Moviegoing, Exhibition and Reception. The group's website is here. I manage the group's listserv, homer-l. If you'd like to join, just drop me an email at iaknig [at] wm.edu
HoMER is an international network of researchers interested in understanding the complex phenomena of cinema-going, exhibition, and reception, from a multidisciplinary perspective.
In summer 2004 I organized the first meeting at which HoMER formally constituted itself at William & Mary's Washington DC offices. Since then HoMER has organized panels, conferences and workshops on an annual basis in cities all across Europe.
These activities have resulted in two edited collections--Explorations in New Cinema History: Approaches and Case Studies. Biltereyst, Maltby, Meers, eds. Blackwell 2011 and Cinema Audiences and Modernity: New Perspectives on European Cinema History. Biltereyst, Maltby, Meers, eds. Routledge 2011. Another collection is in the works, and many HoMER members have published articles, books, and digital projects that have benefited from the network.
