Photon Spectroscopy Team Home

Welcome to the photon spectroscopy haven where we are interested in studying novel materials with photons in the terahertz, infrared, visible, and ultraviolet spectral range. This spectral range spans energies between 1 meV and 6 eV. Photons interact with electronic and bosonic excitations in condensed matter thereby providing valuable spectroscopic information about these excitations.

We are interested in investigating materials with unconventional properties like high-temperature superconductivity and metal-insulator transitions. We also study light-matter interactions that lead to plasmon-polariton and phonon-polariton resonances.

We are grateful to the following organizations for financial support for our research: the National Science Foundation- Division of Materials Research (NSF-DMR) and the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships (NSF-IIP), the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and the Jeffress Memorial Trust.
